Under the title CHALLENGES FOR A UBIQUITOUS IDENTITY, CIBER@RT BILBAO 2004 proposes a series of topics with the aim of attempting to shed light on the changes undergone in various facets of current society. Changes spurt by the appearance of new technologies which mean constant challenges.

The models on which we have based our personal identity and through which we have assigned an identity to the things that surround us are crumbling down. Identity is composed of new variables, which have to be taken into account. This is not about a crisis without any exit. It is the crisis of the old paradigms. .

The old terms and concepts are not useful any more, it becomes necessary to reformulate the theoretic assumptions which we all have taken as unmoveable and assign a place to the new artistic and social practices.

The ubiquitous identity is an identity in constant movement, it is undergoing constant change. The Net allows us to deposit our identity in multiple places, displace it, move it. Space is now the place and the non-place.

The Net is everyone’s game. And the game of everyone is in the Net. (Roy Ascott).

Ciber@RT Bilbao is committed to the challenges in art, in co-operative culture, to inventiveness and to awareness. We are interested in asking ourselves Where is the cutting edge? A huge challenge for a Ubiquitous Identity.
