- SPECIAL HAN HOOGERBRUGGE

The first incarnation of Han Hoogerbrugge's Neurotica was as a comic strip cataloguing the adventures and misadventures of his life as an artist in the mid-1990s. Hoogerbrugge then adapted it for a series of digital animations that he posted on his personal website. First he developed them as Gif animated shorts and then introduced interactity with Flash software.

Born in Rotterdam, where he now lives and works, Hoogerbrugge has continued with Neurotica as an "ongoing self-portrait". "I wanted to show what it is like to be alive today and to visualise the spirit of the time through my character with no language, just images," explained Hoogerbrugge. To do so he has adopted a deliberately sparse visual style. "All the animations are basically very simple with a small variety of action scripting. Most only have one or two 'to go' actions. I wanted to put just enough in one animation to keep your attention, but at the same time leaving you hungry and wanting to see more."

Hoogerbrugge has participated to various exhibitions and festivals as: FILE 2002 (International Festival of Electronic Language), FIFI 2002, Digital arts at la Villette in Paris 2002, International Short Film Festival of Oberhausen 2002, EMAF 2002 and Seoul Net Festival (a.k.a. SeNef) 2002
He also commissioned by : NPS (dutch broadcasting), SONY, Hi-Res! (London), Mitshubischi (Japan), La Schmoove (Theatre Company Rotterdam) and Virgin Belgium (videoclip Dead Man Ray)
